It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on...

old neko and me

I recently uncovered a stash of childhood mementos.  From a stack of first grade schoolwork I found this drawing of a horse.   (I even named him!)  Maybe it's that I especially like children's drawings, but something about this 40-ish year old drawing tickles me.

And, here is my self portrait at age 6.
(Wish I was still this cute.)

sprechen sie deutsch?

I just found these three really cool old
(German, I think?) prints.  Now pondering how to use
them in some future art project....

Saturday, what a day

I spent Saturday afternoon in a little workshop taught by artist Chris Cozen.  I learned some new things that I'm planning to put to good use in the future.  Mostly we messed around with a variety of different techniques/mediums, and each of the participants walked away having completed a couple of small pieces.  Here are mine...

Sweet Green

Here is my newest painting, "Sweet Green",  (8.5x 10.5)...a companion to "Dearest Blue".  Both are mixed media pieces featuring the same little girl from a vintage postcard.  I have enjoyed experimenting with mixed media....so much so that I'm heading off tomorrow for a  little afternoon workshop at Zinnia in Pasadena, taught by a mixed media artist Chris Cozen.  Should be fun!

Wings

I like things with wings.  To me, there's something about the promise of flight that brings with it a sense of freedom.  And some days, I'd just like to fly away.

Mission San Xavier

Earlier this year Fragment Gallery had a show that included two of my paintings. So I made a quick trip to Tucson, AZ for the show opening. While there I checked out the lovely San Xavier del Bac Mission. It blew me away with it's stark beauty. Here's a glimpse...

Halloween Survival

Despite serious threats, a few lucky pumpkins
managed to escape the Halloween knife.
But, Thanksgiving is coming and the fear of the oven still hangs over them.
